Wanting to keep ALL your creations is a really bad business plan, but I really want to keep this fascinator. I made this with three different veilings. All are silk made in France per war (it's unbelievable that I got my paws on this stuff). The separate fascinator base is a sky-blue Chinese silk with embroider flowers.
A hand stitched Floral Fascinator I completed this week. Each petal I made by hand - it took forever, but the results speak for themselves. It is hard to see the hat in all it's fabulousness, because the fabric is a very deep navy blue. Just take my biased word for it - the hat is amazing.
You really have to hunt for genuine French silk veiling these days (Many French factories closed down after WWII). I found the veiling in the jungles of Los Angeles and literally squealed with delight when I found it.
The woman I bought it from had been keeping it for decades and recently had a dream where: "God told me I couldn't take it with me" - so she decided to sell the veiling she had been hoarding. We are talking about yards and yards of delicious silk veiling. Talk about good timing on my part!
The material is silk, but has sizing to give it structure (it is not as soft as you would expect, but it is silk). I hope these veils find good homes and make someone deliriously happy.
